What the 14-day rule addresses
Florida’s PIP statute ties medical benefits to qualifying initial services and care within 14 days after the motor-vehicle accident. Timely care does not establish every other coverage requirement or guarantee that every bill will be paid. Benefit levels also depend on statutory conditions, including the emergency-medical-condition provisions.
Keep an accurate care timeline
Describe symptoms and prior conditions accurately. Keep your own notes separate from medical records, and preserve originals. A lawyer can review insurance questions; your treating providers determine appropriate care.
- The crash date and time, first symptoms, and any changes afterward.
- The date, location, and provider for each initial evaluation.
- Discharge instructions, referrals, follow-up appointments, and bills.
- PIP applications, claim numbers, insurer letters, and the policy in force.
- Work restrictions, missed work, and receipts for related expenses.
What if fourteen days have already passed?
Do not abandon needed care or assume every possible injury claim is gone. PIP eligibility and other potential claims are separate questions that require the facts, policy, and applicable law. Have the dates reviewed promptly rather than changing a record or asking anyone to backdate treatment.
Before paying, signing, or assuming a denial is final
Save the explanation of benefits or denial and any deadlines stated in it. Ask what service was denied, why, and what documents support the decision. Bring the complete correspondence to the review.
PIP is one part of a crash’s financial picture. Other insurance, responsibility for the collision, and unreimbursed losses may require separate analysis. The central FAQ explains the difference between available benefits and a guaranteed payment.
